Sarah Sideways 3 by R.C. Barajas

SSarah Sideways 3 is part of an ongoing series called “Composite”. With these images I explore the moments in time that shape us. From one instant to the next, we move, breathe, form new thoughts, change perspective and orientation. Each iteration of ourselves could be thought of as a living collage existing in that moment. We are, maybe, shifting composites of ourselves—constantly varying in color, shape and awareness, a veritable “What if…” of possibilities.

I am a fan of human beings, with all the infuriating and marvelous characteristics we possess. The hand of the artist is very important to me, and so my photographic work is what would today called “analogue”. I photograph the images on film, and print from those negatives in the darkroom. Color, if any, has been hand-applied.

R.C. BarajasR. C. Barajas is surprised by most things. An artist and writer, she is a Californian by birth and a Virginian by transplant. Her writing has been published in magazines and newspapers including the Washington Post, the Philadelphia Inquirer and a series of other publications. She also spends more time in the darkroom than is strictly good for her. Her artwork has been published and exhibited in the US and Canada, which perhaps gives her an over-blown sense of justification. She is a member of the Multiple Exposures Gallery, based in Alexandria, VA. R. C. currently lives in Arlington, Virginia, with her husband, two crazy dogs, and sometimes a cat from Laos.
