Open Mic Night November 2020:
“Collecting Stories of Bias”
Please See Me hosted its first open mic night on Thursday, November 19th, 2020. In the midst of the coronavirus pandemic, our Please See Me community of artists, authors, physicians, healthcare leaders, and patient advocates came together to talk about health-related bias expressed through poetry, fiction, nonfiction, and photography. The participants may have come from a wide range of backgrounds, but they all shared one thing in common: a desire to communicate that bias comes in many forms. We heard that any bias harms all of us, and that kindness and empathy, especially when it pertains to health and healthcare, is the path to wholeness and healing.
Below, please find videos of some of the readings. We hope that you will find connection and be inspired to share your own story of bias with us or another publication. Please enjoy the work, and plan to join us for our next open mic on March 30, 2021, when we will be collecting stories of COVID-19.
