About Us
Please See Me is an online literary journal that features health-related stories in the form of fiction, creative nonfiction, poetry, and digital media, including photography, podcasts, and short films. Our mission is to elevate the voices and stories of vulnerable populations, and those who care for them. At the heart of our publication is the cultivation of meaningful patient–provider partnerships in the spirit of wellness. To that end, we publish work written by patients, family members, creatives, caregivers, providers–anyone with a health-related story to tell is welcome to submit.
Please See Me is delighted to announce that we have been awarded a grant from the Maryland Humanities for the coming editorial year made possible by the National Endowment for the Humanities, and allowing us to compensate our writers and artists beginning with our 2020 Winter Issue. We are grateful for their support, and for their belief in our mission. We are equally grateful for the continued support from our largely volunteer editorial staff and the Center for Healthcare Narratives, housed within the MedStar Institute for Quality & Safety (MIQS) in Columbia, MD. We continue to seek ways in which to expand our mission, compensate staff and writers, and hope to offer a print version soon. If interested in learning how to become a sponsor, please contact Tracy Granzyk.
Inspiration for this journal comes from Please See Me, the short, award-winning film we created and that was used by the Center for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) at their annual Quality Conference in 2016 as the keynote centerpiece to inspire conversations between patients and providers. The film captures the heart of this journal by the same name—please watch it below to get a sense of our mission, and explore the portfolio of short narrative films based on patient and provider stories in the MIQS Video Library.
