Please See Me still 2

About Us

Please See Me is an online literary journal that features health-related stories in the form of fiction, creative nonfiction, poetry, and digital media, including photography, podcasts, and short films. Our mission is to elevate the voices and stories of vulnerable populations, and those who care for them. At the heart of our publication is the cultivation of meaningful patient–provider partnerships in the spirit of wellness. To that end, we publish work written by patients, family members, creatives, caregivers, providers–anyone with a health-related story to tell is welcome to submit.

Please See Me is a volunteer run, grass roots team that is currently searching for grant support to continue our mission of elevating the voices of vulnerable patients, families and healthcare professionals using creativity as both therapeutic release and artistic expression. We have been supported in the past by: the Maryland Humanities made possible by the National Endowment for the Humanities and MedStar Health Institute for Quality & Safety Center for Healthcare Narratives allowing us to compensate our writers and artists for our 2020 Winter and 2021 Spring Issues. We are grateful for their past support and their belief in our mission. We are equally grateful for the continued support from our revolving, volunteer editorial staff. We continue to seek ways in which to expand our mission, compensate staff and writers, and hope to offer a print version soon. If interested in learning how to become a sponsor, please contact Tracy Granzyk.

Additional inspiration for this journal comes from Please See Me, the short, award-winning film we created and that was used by the Center for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) at their annual Quality Conference in 2016 as the keynote centerpiece to inspire conversations between patients and providers. The film captures the heart of this journal by the same name—please watch it below to get a sense of our mission, and explore the portfolio of short narrative films based on patient and provider stories in the MedStar Institute for Quality & Saftery Video Library.
